The da Vinci Institute is a community school based on the principles of common sense and human dignity. We endeavor to teach truth while maintaining the precious spark of creativity that exists in all students. We are committed to excellence in our teaching and to high standards for our students. We pledge to deal with our students on the basis of integrity, honesty and good faith. The da Vinci Institute is a school where each individual is valued and what is in the best interest of one will not hinder the common good. As a not-for profit, tuition-free charter school, all students have an equal opportunity to be accepted into our program. The da Vinci Primary School is located in central Jackson County and is the first non-graded school recognized by the Michigan Department of Education. da Vinci is authorized through Central Michigan University. In addition to our eight classrooms, we also have a P.A.L.S. (Partners Assisting with Literacy and Schools) Room and a Helping Room. There are 108 students who attend the da Vinci Primary School, served by 16 staff members. We service the entire spectrum of abilities and needs in a caring manner, looking to meet the individual learning needs of children. The Primary School held a 68% free and reduced lunch eligibility during the 02-03 school year. Children enjoy learning at da Vinci, as is demonstrated by our 91.9% daily attendance rate. The da Vinci Primary School is a warm and exciting place to learn. The essence of our school is that we care about each other and the learning process. Through tender and constant care, we strive to teach children the importance of being Reasonable, Responsible and Respectful young citizens. Learning and growing is characterized by appropriate expectations for each and every child. Mastery learning is the focus here, so that all children will know what is most essential to progressing through da Vinci’s multi-age, continuous progress system. |
